Top 5 Games at E3 2021

.

There were quite a few games shown across all the conferences at E3 2021, however by previous E3 standard this one seemed a little light. There were a few big reveals however I expected there to be little more. This might have been due to some missing games that I wished to see like Fable 4, Metroid Prime 4, Beyond Good and Evil 2, Gotham Knights and many more. It might also have been partly due to Sony not having a state of play during this period, although they did have one a few week prior to showcase Horizon Forbidden West gameplay, but the lack of their presence / first party games is definitely missed. We also did not have EA play during E3 which is on the slate for July however we did see some EA games like Battlefield in other conferences. For the games we did see, there was still a lot to be excited for. I picked out my Top 5 games which I was excited to see.

Elden Ring

Ready to die, die and die some more until you finally figure out the best way to finally beat a difficult boss? From Software are teaming up with George R. R. Martin to create a new souls like game which looks pretty awesome. The bosses look more menacing than ever and the story has the potential to be even more interesting. I feel like there is a Dark Souls meets Lord of the Rings vibe from what we see in the trailer. The release date is currently set for 21st January 2022. Check out the trailer here.

Stalker 2

I played the first game and loved it. It has been 10 years since the last game in the series came out, so seeing this gameplay trailer got me really excited. There is a little concern though as the game has been cancelled twice and as good as the trailer looked, I felt it looked a little too polished and also that in the second XBOX showcase which went deeper into the games shown, for Stalker 2, they just described everything that was in the the trailer with a voiceover and little to nothing else on top talked about. I really rooting for this game to actually be released and to the polish that we saw in the trailer. The release date is currently set for 22nd April 2022. Check out the trailer here.

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2

This sequel to Breath of The Wild does not have an official name yet as Nintendo want to hold that for a later reveal however in the trailer there was a lot to take in, from new abilities to new places to explore and I am pumped for this game. The first breath of the wild is one of my favourite games ever. The release date is currently set for sometime in 2022. If it were early 2022 I think we probably would have a release date by now, therefore I think we will see it released late 2022. Check out the E3 gameplay trailer here.

Starfield

Described by Tod Howard as "like Skyrim in space" and he also said that "It's like NASA meets Indiana Jones meets the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, a group of people that are searching for answers". If the game is anything like Skyrim then we know it will be good and for all those waiting for Elder Scrolls 6 then this is the perfect game to play in the mean time as we know Elder Scroll 6 will not be out for several years yet. We still have a while to wait for this one and will for sure see more on it in the next E3. The release date is currently set for 11th November 2022. Check out the trailer here.

Halo Infinite

Halo 4 and 5 campaign stories were not that great in my opinion however I always hold out hope that the next Halo game will have a great story as the first Halo game did. The latest campaign story trailer intrigues me and makes me want to know more about the next part of Master Chief and Cortana's story. We should be getting this game this year, so hopefully we will see even more on Halo Infinite from now until then. The release date is currently set for Holiday 2021. Check out the trailer here.

It is safe to say that for me XBOX "won" E3 but I personally think E3 was a bit lighter than expected this year. There were still a huge amount of games shown, there was something for everyone (apart from big sports game fans - as they usually come during the EA Play showcase which is in July this year). You can check out all the conferences on the list I put together with links here.
