Top 5 Indie Games at E3 2021

So I have finally been able to watch most of the E3 conferences, there were so many showcasing a wide variety of games. I mentioned it in previous articles where I feel this years E3 was a little light on big game reveals/showcases; you can check out my Top 5 games of E3. We did however get to see many indie games which is a great thing in itself as more and more great indie games are being made every year. I feel like we are spoilt for choice sometimes and it's hard to decide which ones to buy and play. With that said I wanted to share the top 5 indie games which I am most excited to play when they at released.

Sifu - Release Date - 2021

Martial arts in games is not easy to do authentically, with so many complex movements that move together fluidly in real life, it's not really possible to do a direct translation into a game. Fighting games like Street fighter and Tekken which have specific move sets and blocks set out or are great and fun games but do not capture martial in an authentic look and feel. When watching the Sifu trailer during E3, I felt that it did capture the look and feel of martial arts, we will obviously have to wait for the finished product but as someone who loves the martial arts culture this game this game looks great.

Sable - Release Date - 23th September 2021

Ever wondered what it would be like to explore a world that was inspired by Studio Ghibli's Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind and Princess Mononoke, this is the perfect game to do that. The art style looks amazing and the music is really calming. This is going to be one of those perfect games for the times you want to chill, relax and explore a new world. There is no overarching story, just a bunch of mini stories which then puts more of the focus of the game to go out and explore. I kind of wish this was coming out of switch as that is my console I like play chill out games so I hope this game is playable on xCloud so I can just hook my controller to my phone, chill on the sofa and go explore. You can watch the trailer here.

Death's Door - Release Date - 20th July 2021

Death's Door has a really interesting vibe to it, the game is set in world where you play a crow whose job is to go reaps the souls of the dead. The look and feel of the game and its characters are really well done. The most interesting thing to myself is the combat and traversal, the grapple hook really sold the game to me so I hope they implement it in really interesting ways. The different bosses also look challenging which I think will be fun to take on. It is quite hard to describe exactly why I want to play this game so check out the trailer for yourself.

The Ascent - Release Date - 29th July 2021

The Ascent is a cyberpunk game and is set in a dystopian future in which the world is run by mega-corporations. Does that sound familiar? Probably because it is the same description I would give Cyberpunk 2077, however this game is completely different as it is a twin stick shooter not an first person open world game like Cyberpunk 2077. I do like playing twin-sticked shooters so coming off the disappointment of Cyberpunk 2077 I think if you like the cyberpunk aesthetic (I know I certainly do) this could be the perfect game to play next. Check out the trailer to see what the game is about.

Replaced - Release Date - 2022

Replaced is another "cyberpunk style" game however also different from Ascent and Cyberpunk 2077, this is a 2.5D action platformer. It is not set in future dystopia but in a 1980's dystopia; I grew up on 80's action movies, I think is going to be cool and I really hope to see lots of 80's reference. I love the pixel art with modern looking action combat and the small addition of things like shaking camera make Replaced look really interesting. It is not out for a while but check out the reveal trailer.

With four of these games coming out this year. I think we have a lot to look forward to. What were your top indie games of E3 this year?
