Nintendo Direct

This was a pretty good Nintendo direct in my book, a new Mario game, a new Legend of Zelda game, a couple remakes, retro games and a banger reveal of the new Metroid Prime game at the end. I feel like Nintendo is showing some great support for the their platform even though it is coming toward the end of the life cycle. You can watch the full showcase here.

Mario and Luigi: Brothership - 7th November 2024

There has not been a new entry to Mario and Luigi since 2015 until now. I always like to play as many of the Mario platforming games as possible and this one looks like it would be quite fun with new mechanics and possible co op play. One thing I did not like much was the art style, I was not captured by the cel-shaded look with big black outline of everything. Check out the trailer here.

Nintendo World Championships NES Edition- 18th July 2024

This game was already announced in May however I wanted to highlight the game as I thought it is pretty cool addition to the Switch games lines. The game includes speed running 150 challenges from 13 different NES games ranging from Super Mario 1, 2, 3, Legend of Zelda, Zelda 2, Metroid and more. Check out the trailer here.

Donkey Kong Country Returns HD - 16th January 2025

This is a Remake / Remaster of the a remake the original game (I think) and includes all the extra levels from the 3ds version. I played a lot of the Donkey Kong Country games when I was a kid so I think I would really love to jump back in and what better way to do than a switch HD version. Watch the trailer here.

Luigi Mansion 2 HD - 27the June 2024

Another Remake / Remaster and this time its of Luigi Mansion 2 which is a remake of Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon released on the 3ds. This time though it is not a game that I have played before, in fact I have not played any of the Luigi’s Mansion games however I think I will give this one a try and if I like then try other ones as well. Check out the trailer here.

Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection - 2024

This is cool collection of previous retro Marvel vs Capcom fighting games, I really like that more audiences can play these fighting games that would not have be able to otherwise. Check out the trailer here.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom - 26th September 2024

The first Zelda game in which you can play Zelda instead of Link. Instead of fighting with a sword you will be magical staff called the Trirod. The sword allows you duplicate items called echoes such as tables, beds, boxes and even monsters, with these echoes you can use them to traverse the world or even fight monsters. Different monsters have different abilities which means the echoes you create of these monsters will help you in different situations. One of the cools things I love about this type of gameplay is that everyone’s experience is different and it is one of reasons I loved breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom. There is also a gold Hyrule Nintendo Switch lite coming along with the game which looks pretty cool. Check out the trailer here. Check out the gold Switch lite here.

Metroid Prime 4 Beyond - 2025

Finally we got a taste of Metroid Prime 4, and the Nintendo Switch is hopefully going out with a bang. In this trailer we got to see cinematics and gameplay where we can clearly see it is very similar looking to Metroid Prime Remastered but with some nice visual upgrades. Clearly if you liked Metroid Prime Remastered this game is most likely going to be for you. Check out the trailer here.

Devolver Direct 2024

In the past I have always loved to watch the Devolver Digital Showcase as they are always have some form of dark humour in between presenting the games and from 2019 to 2021 they had ongoing bonkers storyline throughout the presentation. This time it features a guy who is in love with Devolver Digital and him doing things like preparing a party while we listen to his inner monologue, not as good as previous year but stills has it’s moments. The only bad thing about this showcase was there were not as many games shown compared with previous years. Watch the full showcase here.

Tenjutsu

This is a top down melee fighting roguelike by Deepnight Games (a one man - Sébastien Benard - indie studio**)**. This game just looks cool, we only saw a small snippit of the action but it looks fun, reminds me of the Hotline Miami games but with more variety in the fighting mechanics with the addition of roguelike elements. There is no release date for this one yet but you can watch the reveal trailer here.

Anger Foot - 11th July 2024

It is the first time I have seen this game but I mini version or pre version (not really sure how to describe it) was released on itch.io a few years ago and it seems that it has now turned into a full game which is pretty awesome to see. This is a game that looks a bit crazy as you to are defeating your enemies by kicking them (and shooting them I guess). You get different type of footwear such as trainers / sneakers, clogs, high heels, boot and more, these different shoes will give you different types of kicks and abilities. In the trailer we saw the clogs having the ability to kick stuff and it start to float and we also saw a trainer called thrusters which looks like it give you a higher and further jump ability. Watch the trailer here.

Possessor(s) - 2025

This is a action side scroller where you will be trying to escape a city filled with all kinds of monsters. This game comes from Heart Machine, the creator of Hyper Light and Solar Ash. Watch the reveal trailer here.

TLDR News

Sadly there have been three more game studio closures. Galvanic games is closing down. They made games such as Some Distant Memory and Wizard with a Gun (gamesindustry.biz). Embracer is shutting down Pieces Interactive developer of the latest game in the Alone in the Dark series (Game Informer). Paradox Interactive closes Tectonic Studio who were to make a game called Life by You to rival the Sims games (Game Informer).

Microsoft says Xbox will have their biggest booth at Gamescom and they did have one of the biggest showcases this summer. We will not be seeing anything from Sony and Nintendo this year. Gamescom will be from 21st to 25th August. (IGN)

Redfall players who bought the DLC will be getting theirs refunds coming through as the DLC was abandoned due to the closure of Arkane Austin (Kotaku)

Bluepoint games (developer of Demon Souls Remake) has historically made remakes and remasters of older PlayStation games. I think many people like myself were hoping they were working on a Bloodborne Remake for PS5 / PC however they are working on an original title for PlayStation (and I’m not saying that is a bad thing - it is awesome for Bluepoint - I just really want a Bloodborne Remake). (Eurogamer)

I remember watching the Ubisoft Conference at E3 2017 and being super excited with the cinematic trailer of Beyond Good and Evil 2, it just looks cool and fun. I like the Indian style of building withing a sci-fi setting. Well sever years later, apparently they are still working on it. Ill be honest, I am not sure I care at this point, sure I will check out the trailers and possibly even the game when they come out but I don’t care to know they are still working on it. This news came alongside the release of the Beyond Good and Evil 20th Anniversary Edition. (PC Gamer)
