Summer Game Fest

So I have to start this by saying that I love Jeff Keely’s opening comments on Big companies treating your developers right as we are seeing so much crunch happening and also at the same time we are seeing so many lay offs in the industry.

From AAA to indie games I will be going through the games which I thought were the most interesting in the show. If you wish to see the full list of games in the show you can find that here and if you wish to watch the show yourself then watch it here.

Star Wars Outlaws

While a full gameplay showcase will be at the Ubisoft Forward on 9th June. A brief glimpse was shown at Summer Games Fest and it looks so cool, from the environments, characters, vehicles and more. I am think the one thing I am least excited for is the in space stuff. It just seems a bit too cartoony for me, I do hope this is a limited aspect of the game but I am still super excited for this game. Check out the teaser trailer here.

Neva

This game looks like an action platformer and I think this looks like the perfect game to play on the steam deck. The scene looks like a work of art where you are going through forest environments, you fight with a sword and you get what looks like a white wolf to come fight with you. Check out the trailer here.

Black Myth: Wukong

There has so much been shown on this game already but it is worth a mention as it is coming out on 20th August. The game follows the Chinese legend of the Monkey King and I love watching movies and reading books on the Monkey King so it will be awesome to play a game on the same legend. Check out the trailer here.

Mecha BREAK

If you liked Armored Core or Gundam then this looks like a game that could suit you. Fast paced high action mech combat. With that there is not much else to be said. Check out the trailer here.

The First Decendant

This is a third person looter shooter which looks very much like Warframe, Destiny and The Division. I do like playing this type of game as co op with my friends. What really makes me want to check it out is the cool looking suits they show off in the trailer. (Note - the trailer has wrong choice of music. The music is too epic sounding for what you are seeing on screen)

Monster Hunter Wilds

This was shown in PlayStation’s State of Play however we there was a different trailer in Summer Game Fest and it makes me even more excited for this game. In this trailer we saw this sand worm like monster who is in a pack of worms, we also saw more of the mounts that you ride on and also more on the weapons that fight with. We also saw one of the worms strangling another monster so I think that will would be quite cool to lure one monster to fight another and weaken both. Monster Hunter Wilds is not coming until next year however with so much being shown this summer, I suspect that it will likely be in the first half of next year.

Phantom Blade Zero

This is an action RPG. It is not outright saying it is a Soulslike but it does look like to have those elements of dodging, parrying, stealth executions and big bosses. It also gives off major Sekiro vibes but with faster paced action. Check out the trailer here.

TLDR News

Avalanche Studios (developer of Just Cause) will be closing two of its studios in New York and Montreal and will be laying off circa 9% of their workforce. One of the sad things about this story is that Montreal Studio had only been opened since October 2023. We do hope that everyone affected will be ok. More details here.

What happens when a studio who made single player story driven 3rd person action-adventure Batman game then makes what is essentially a multiplayer co-op 3rd person action hero shooter (can be played single player) with microtransactions ……well I guess you take a 200 million dollar loss. if you wish to know. I guess we all just wanted a game that is more like Rocksteady has made in the past but also I think we were mislead in what type of game Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was going to be. Read more about it here.

Sony’s PSVR2 will get an adapter to hook it up to the PC but it will loose some of its best features like HDR, eye tracking, headset feedback, apadative triggers and haptic feedback. I am not sure that anyone would buye the PSVR2 for PC over a Meta Quest 3 as all the things that would make it stand out are only exclusive to the PlayStation however for anyone who already owns one get the chance to play more games that are only on other store fronts.

In last weeks newsletter I mentioned that Zotac is releasing a handheld PC. Well we now know it is going to arrive in September and will cost $800. At that price it looks like it will be up against the ASUS Rog Ally X and Lenovo Legion Go. If you are looking for a PC handheld then the Zotac might looks like it will be worth checking out as it will have the AMOLED screen but also the AMD 8840 APU.

More handheld news as the ASUS ROG Ally X goes into pre order and will be released on 22nd July also at $800. Full specs have been revealed and as suspected it had an 80Wh battery. It also will include a 1TB SSD, 24GB LPDDR5X-7500 RAM and improved joysticks and D-pad. More details here.

Kena Bridge of Spirits will be coming Xbox in August.

Microsoft is apparently thinking about bringing Halo to PS5 and this is one of those games which I thought would never come to PlayStation. More details here.

A google employee is apparently was behind several previous Nintendo leaks and they did this by access private videos on the Nintendo account. More details here.

Cool Stuff

Like a Dragon: Yakuza is coming to Prime Video on 24th October 2024

Baldur’s Gate 3 will allow mods from September and this is cool - if you have been reading a while then you know I always call out cool mods when I see them and will do the same for Baldur’s Gate 3. More details here.

Fallout on a Nintendo 3ds - what more is there to say - it is just cool.

Want to get paid at home for serving the infamous meatballs at IKEA and you might ask how is that possible? Well IKEA is going to pay people to work at the IKEA Roblox store. More details on the gig and how to apply here.

Pod racing in LEGO Fortnite - not a sentence I thought I would ever write or say. It looks a bit jank but would be fun to play with friends.
