Is Now The Time To Buy A PS5?
Why I have not bought one yet?
Are you like me and don't have a PS5 yet? It has been seven months however they have been sold out everywhere in the UK and very hard to get due to bots and scalpers. I decided to not get a PS5 at release due to the lack of PS5 exclusive games. The only game that was released with the console that made it appealing at the time was Spiderman: Miles Morales and even though I really wanted to play it, paying 450 pounds for a console for one 20 hour game was not worth it in my opinion. Although I could play other games like Assassins Creed Valhalla and others with better performance than a PS4, I also have a PC with 2070 which just as well as a PS5 for those games, plus in most cases I am usually able to buy the games cheaper on PC. It did not make sense for me to get the PS5 at launch however like many people out there I did not anticipate the demand for the PS5 to be so high and the continued silicon / chip shortages which limits any supply ramp up from Sony.
What are the top 10 games out currently on PS5?
This list is a bit subjective and might not be for everyone but in my opinion, the best games out for PS5 in no particular order are Assassin Creed Valhalla, Spiderman: Miles Morales, The Last of Part 2, Ghost of Tsushima, Demon Souls, God of War, Returnal, Astro's Playroom and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. From my list there are seven games which are exclusive which is good enough reason to buy the PS5 games if there are at least a few games which you have not played yet. There are also three games which are PS5 only exclusives which is even more reason to buy the PS5 if those games appeal to you. Plus all the games on the list that are available for the both PS4 and PS5 run better on the PS5.
What games are planned to come out this year?
There are many games still to be released on PS5 this year (Assuming no delays). At the time of posting my top games I am looking forward to coming out on PS5 are Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, Kena Bridge of Spirits, Ghostwire: Tokyo, Stray, Horizon Forbidden West, Ghotham Knights and Dying Light 2. Some of these games are coming to other platforms and some are PS5 only; for me the PS5 exclusives are what make the PS5 more appealing to buy however all the games on the list that are available for the both PS4 and PS5 run significantly better on the PS5. Out of all the games coming out, the game I am most looking forward to is Horizon Forbidden West. The risk with games coming out in the future is that we do not know how good the games will actually be however looking at the latest gameplay footage for Horizon will likely be a banger. Do any of the games my list or any other games make the PS5 more appealing to you?
What will supply be like?
In May 2021, the Sony Executive Deputy President/CFO said they will be expecting PS5 shortages to continue into 2022. Also according to the market research group NPD, the PS5 is the fastest selling console in US history. What this tells me is that Sony is producing PS5 as fast as they can and the problem here is the demand is too high for Sony to meet with the current production numbers. Also although it was not said directly, the PS5 production is likely not able to be ramped up to meet the demand most likely due to the global silicon / chip shortages. What this means for you and me is that if we want a PS5 at least by the holiday season then we should be trying to get one now.
Is that is now the time to try and buy a PS5?
TL:DR - Yes buy a PS5 now if you can get one. There are some great games available for it now and some amazing looking games coming out this year plus it will be hard to get one so we need to start trying now.
I looked at this from two angles; firstly I examined the current and upcoming games and secondly I examined the demand supply issue. If you want to play any games that you yet to play and that are available on the PS5 or if any upcoming games this year interest you then you should try get one as soon as possible. We know supply is short vs demand currently and that will continue into next year. If you were hoping to get one for the holiday season / Christmas then I would suggest trying your best to get one now as you are giving yourself more time and ultimately a bigger chance of getting one before that point.
