I Finally Got A PS5

I had a choice between getting a PS5 or Xbox Series X, however I do already own a decent gaming PC and all new Xbox games are supposedly coming out on PC as well the Xbox at the same time. Game Pass is also available on PC with a large range of titles, plus I already own a Nintendo Switch. One thing I would be missing out on by not owning the Xbox Series X is the back compatibility on Xbox and would not be able to play Xbox One games that I haven't been able to play as I have never owned and Xbox One, however with two young kids its hard for me to find time to play what I have (and yet I keep adding to my ever growing list of games / consoles to play). The only new games I was excluded from would be PS5 exclusives so it only made sense from me to get a PS5, IF I could get a hold of one. If you want to read more on why you should get a PS5 and why I decided to buy one then I do go into more in depth if in a previous article.

So the title of the article is slightly mis-leading as I actually bought a PS5 back in June after the article I wrote back then, however unfortunately I got sick with stage 2 cancer and had to have a few operations so that they could remove the tumour. Thankfully they successfully were able to remove it before it was able to spread. I recently recovered from the surgery and now that I am all better I am actually able to play my PS5.

I live in the UK and currently it is extremely hard to buy a PS5. It has been this way since the consoles release and I believe this has been the same issue for most of the world. The demand for the PS5 is super high and one thing has exacerbated the situation is the scalpers that are out there with their bots trying to buy up every PS5 and sell them for exorbitant prices on eBay. I have seen some selling on their for £600 - £700 for the disc edition when they cost £450 from retailers. I was not willing to pay the £150 - £250 extra as most of the time I am looking for deals and trying to save money. I recently read a story that a 16 year old boy made two million dollars from scalping PS5's and Xbox Series X's and as much I commend the business side of the story, I just feel that as a gamer and consumer it is completely ridiculous to pay such a high price when I should not have to. So when I wanted to buy one I decided to try and beat the scalpers, I found this website Stock Informer (UK stock only) and joined their discord, through their discord I found another discord called PlayStation UK and I constantly tried to buy from every drop that came up for about two weeks straight, until I got lucky and was able to buy one through Very. The deal that I got was the disc version of the console, an extra controller and Ratchet and Clank. I was pretty happy with the deal as I would buy an extra controller sooner or later and Ratchet and Clank has been reviewed by many outlets and rated highly.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is not my typical type of game but having played a couple of hours, I have to say that it is quite fun to play and looks amazing. It is also a show of technical display of the superfast SDD in the PS5, however having played it I think that developers could have achieved the same look without the SSD but from a developers perspective the superfast SSD makes things easier, as instead of using difficult techniques to jump from world to world, they can just quickly load the next world in without issue.

Two games that I have yet to play but really want to are Final Fantasy VII Remake and Ghost of Tsushima. Both originally came out on PS4 however have had update to perform better on PS5 where you can currently get the best experience. Both games run at 60 fps without and issues in performance mode. Final Fantasy also targets 4k in the graphics mode with very few drops to a slightly lower resolution in taxing situations and runs at 30fps. There were also some pop in issues on PS4 but this issue is removed in PS5, the lighting and shadows also look better on PS5. Ghost of Tsushima also targets 4k on PS5 and runs at 60fps which is better than PS4, the other main improvement that I will personally enjoy is that cut-scenes are real time which means there is lip-sync to Japanese which couldn't be done on PS4 where there was only lip-sync to English.

I think the next new upcoming games for me on PS5 will be Horizon Forbidden West and God of War : Ragnarok. Both are PlayStation exclusives. I love the first Horizon game, the open world is great, the story is pretty cool and combat is really fun too. It would have been my game of the year for 2017 if it wasn't for the release of Zelda: Breath of the Wild also in the same year. Horizon Forbidden West is due for release on 25th February 2022 I also love God of War on the PS4 which was released in 2018 and was my game of the year that year as well. The gameplay with the Leviathan axe was sensational and the story with the father and son relationship of Kratos and Loki was one of the best I've ever played through in a game. I cannot wait for the next instalment, however no release date has been announced but I'm hoping it will be in 2022.

I am super happy with my purchase as one of the things I mentioned in my previous my article is that it would be hard to get a hold of a PS5 during the Christmas / Holiday season in 2021 and I unfortunately I was right. Thankfully luck was on my side and I was able to buy one during the mid-year. I cannot wait for the upcoming PS5 exclusive games and will let you know my thoughts on them when I play them.
