Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC was released on 21st June and with everyone loving Elden Ring I decided to pick it up and start playing (I know I know I am a bit late to the party - we all games in our backlog that we want to play but never get around to it - Let me know what games you have in your backlog in the comments). I will update you on my progress as the weeks go by of my progress however I am in the middle of play Final Fantasy VII Remake so not sure how quickly I will progress.

In the news recently we have seen that there are some people who has expressed that the DLC is too hard and I talked about this in previous edition of this newsletter but I wanted to highlight the review score from critics. Metacritic score is 95 which means it exceptional and is one point shy of the base game score of 96. I loved Game Informer’s line where they say “The boring but ultimately correct shorthand to summarize Shadow of the Erdtree is that it’s more Elden Ring.”, IGN’s Mitchell Saltzman gave it a 10 and says “It takes everything that made the base game such a landmark RPG, condenses it into a relatively compact 20-25 hour campaign, and provides fantastic new challenges for heavily invested fans to chew on.”

Before we move on the the TLDR news section I wanted to leave you with a few of cool ways I have seen people play the DLC and beat bosses -

Firstly we have BioticNova who plays one handed and beat a DLC boss while eating a donut

Secondly we have MissMikkaa who beat a DLC boss using a DDR mat as the controller

Lastly we have Perrikaryal who beat a DLC boss using her mind

Capcom NEXT Showcase 2024

With so many showcases throughout the year it can be difficult to stand out and I think the Capcom NEXT showcase did that. They went with interviewing the directors and producers of the games while showing us gameplay while they were talking and also showing trailers in between. However I think the editing could have been better as they showed RE VII on Apple devices in-between Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, they could have edited it show the RE VII section after. They did announce they are working on a new resident evil game but not much more information was given. You can watch the full Capcom NEXT showcase 2024 here.

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess - 19th July 2024

This game was revealed a year ago and it did not capture me as there was a lot going on in the screen during the action, from the colours to sword slashes to things that pop up while fighting, it was a bit much for my eyes. Having watched this latest trailer and seeing people play parts of the demo (which is out now) I think with a little adjustment to the colour of my screen it will not be as bad as I first thought. I do love the setting, I love the rural Japanese mountain environments. I also like action-strategy games and this game has it’s own take on it with things like having a day night cycle where you prepare your strategy in the day and then fight during the night, plus it also like a tower defence game where you recruit ally's and then strategically place them across the area to help you fight off the waves of enemies at night. I am super happy there is a demo which everyone can get stuck into without time limits because it really give a sense of what the game has to offer. Check out the trailer here.

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster - 19th September 2024

Dead Rising was super fun when it first came out so it is cool to see this remaster, especially as we getting graphics improvements from running at higher resolutions, updated textures and updated lighting, it looks very much like a modern game. They also add quality of life improvements such as moving while aiming and auto-save. Check out the trailer here.

A man was jailed four month in Nuneaton in the UK for carrying a Legend of Zelda Master Sword Replica in public. Now you might think the sword was big like the size of machete or even bigger but in fact it was only 6 inches long and the man claimed he was just using it as a fidget toy, however in the UK you are not allowed to carry a blade that is bigger than 3 inches and they are very strict on that. If you are one of those people that wanted a Watch Dogs movie then please let me know why? I don’t understand why this movie is being made but it is happening. (Gamespot)
