5 Most Anticipated Games Of 2022

Last year (2021) was a good year in games however I personally do not think it wasn't an amazing year of game. This year however is shaping up to be what could to be a really big year. So many big games are planned to be released this year and these are my top 5 most anticipated games of 2022. Also on this list I have only chosen bigger studio games and I will be doing another list for indies games as there are quite a few indie games I am also excited for.

Horizon Forbidden West - Release Date - 18 February 2022

I have spoken about Horizon Forbidden West a couple times previous which tells you that I am super hyped for this game. I loved Horizon Zero Dawn, the story was pretty cool and the combat is super fun in an open world that filled with so much to see and made you want to explore more. Forbidden West’s gameplay looks stunning and the world looks like another amazing world that I really want to explore. I do wonder where the story will go next but I do trust in the Gorilla Games team to come up with a story that will be captivating. We have already seen that there are new ways to fight the robot enemies and different robots you can takeover and mount. We have also seen that Aloy will be swimming under water which looks really lively and vibrant and we have also seen enemies under water which brings the world even more to life.

God of War: Ragnarok - Release Date - 2022

God of War was my game of the year for 2018 and this sequel is lined up to be just as good. I am excited to have fun with the Leviathan axe again which felt pretty perfect in the first game, the feel of fighting with it had a nice weighty feel and when you throw it, call it back and catch it again felt really satisfying. I hope that it will feel even better with the new DualSense controller. The father and son story was such a great story to follow in the 2018 game so I do hope they follow that up with something just as good and we do know that Kratos’s son Loki is coming back for Ragnarok. Interestingly the look of parts of the game such as characters like Thor have a more traditional look to them which makes me wonder if they are also putting parts of the traditional story like Fimbul Winter’s Fury or specific gods that fight each other into this story which I think would be pretty cool. Obviously not all will be exactly how the Ragnarok story was originally written however it will be interesting to see how they weave the original story into this one.

Elden Ring - Release Date - 25 February 2022

So with all the play tests that media outlets, streamers and youtubers have played, one main theme that came about it is that the game is a massive game. This gets me really excited to get into this game as I love exploring huge worlds and finding stuff randomly. I do own Bloodborne and Sekiro however these are games that I have not had the time to get into, so I really hope that I will be able to get into Elden Ring. I have read that the game is not as hard to get into as previous From Software games but also includes the super hard bosses that these games are known for. One thing I personally do not have time to do is spend five plus hours to complete one boss but I will definitely try to get as stuck as I can. From the trailers we have seen a world that looks beautiful and that is filled wonderfully weird creatures. It does come out the same time as Horizon so I will wait to play this after completing Horizon but I am still super excited for Elden Ring.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League - Release Date - 2022

So I have only seen a couple trailers on this but it has got me hooked. The game has been made by Rocksteady Studios who made the Batman Arkham games so we know the gameplay is going to be good as the team there know what they are doing. In this trailer you also see four characters that you can play, Deadshot Boomerang, King Shark and Harley Quinn; you see them fighting the Flash who are being controlled by Brainiac and also creatures that I can only assume are also controlled by Brainiac. I am not a huge comic book reader and do not know the lore of these characters but judging from what I have seen in the trailers that this gameplay is going to be fast and fun with comedic dialogue throughout. I think out of all the games out this year that this will be the most ‘fun’.

Ghostwire: Tokyo - Release Date - 2022

Every time I read about this game it seems to be pretty divisive. Some people are super excited for it and others do not like it as it was not what they were expecting. Shinji Mikami was director and writer for Resident Evil 4 and he has taken over as director on this game when Ikumi Nakamura left shortly after the reveal of this game at the E3 2019. I do trust in Shinji Mikami’s vision given the games he has directed previously. I believe the divisiveness on the game comes from the expectation that the game would be more eerie or scary and when then gameplay reveal was shown, it turned out it was more of an action adventure game than a spooky one. I personally like the vibe of the game, I do hope there are more spooky / scary elements to it that have not been shown yet but I am still quite excited for it.

These are my top 5 however I am also excited for other games such as S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl however I did not include it as it was delayed from April 2022 to December 2022 and it just makes me unsure that it will come out this year; I would prefer it gets delayed and come out as a polished product than come out early as unfinished. There is also the possibility that Zelda: Breath of The Wild 2 might come out this year however a release date has yet to be announced. Arkham Knight also looks fun however I like the look of Suicide Squad over Arkham Knight but I will definitely try and play both. I am sure there lots of games I have missed so let me know what games you would have added to your list in the comments below or on Instagram, Twitter or Tiktok.
